What is a positive attitude? Positive attitude is when you’re in a good mood throughout the day and also gives other people positive energy by playing with them, helping them out when they’re stuck or possibly giving them motivation to keep on working.

So we made a poster around it and shared it to people and to keep them calm when they’re stressed or just having a bad day.

RFE Statistical Investigation

LI: to conduct a statistical Investigation on reading for enjoyment

Reading everyday for RFE allows you to grow your word knowledge and strengthen understanding of words. This graph shows my progress on the minutes I read. The differences show a lot as I have read 60 minutes on week 1, and 105 minutes on the second week. Seeing the differences between the two gives me a good picture that I have improved on my minutes on Reading for Enjoyment. Reading daily has made me grow my word knowldge, as well as to strengthen the understanding of words.

I enjoyed doing this activity because  it allowed me to keep on reading at home after school.

Newshound

LI: To understand how media has changed over time

This week we had our first Newshound session with Mrs Grant were looking at media and how it has changed over time. We got to find and list media on a picture, the media we saw were bus advertisement, street signs, phones, ect.

I found this activity fun because we got to write down what is negative and positive about today and 1980’s

Who is at Fault?

LI: To make an informed opinion

This week we have been learning about bias. Bias can be objective which means not allowing bias to effact judgement or subjective which means in fluenced by past experiences. We looked at the same story from different perspectives. A perspective is a viewpoint on a subject, topic, After reading and summarising both texts we thought about and talked about the facts to help us make an informed opinion.

Our group found this exciting because I learned how to tell bias and balance in a story.

Something I found interesting was in the True Story of the 3 Pigs the wolf was actually baking a cake for his grandma and went to ask for sugar.

Cinquain Poem

LI:To write a cinquain poem to describe Matariki

Our challenge today was to write a cinquain poem to help us strengthen our connections to description that describes Matariki. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

Ancestor Poem

This week New Zealand is celebrating Matariki as a public holiday for the first time. Matariki is a time for reflection. We used the idea of reflecting back on the life our ancestors had. If I could speak to my ancestor who lived over a 100 years these are the questions I would ask to help me find out more about my family who walked before me.

Playing with the Micobits

LI: To learn how to code with simple blocks and to transfer the code from the chromebook  to the Microbit

First of all we coded the microbit to show a flashing heart.

We put two show led lights inside a frever block. The microbit shows the keds that are lit onthe block. They will flash between one blcok an the other forever as both blocks are inside a forevr block.

When we we use the blocks for coding the buttons they have a drop down to chose which button. This is called a variable.

Bee art

Our bee creation was inspired by Raku Inoue who creates insect art.

After collecting our leaves, grass and flowers from the ground we arranged our collection of nature to create our bee.

I enjoyed this art challenge because we could be creative with nature.

Sailing

This week on Monday we went sailing. Our challange was to learn how to get the boat ready, rig the sails, check for safety, launch the boat and have a go at sailing. Our coaches Colin, Steph and Holly taught us about capsizing. We had to wear life jackets and wetsuits to keep us save from drowning. My favourite part fo the day was the sailing and me swimming because it was so fun to do in the sea.
